Vice President Kashim Shettima on Sunday departed Johannesburg, South Africa, for Luanda to represent President Bola Tinubu at the AU-EU Summit in the Angolan capital.
This followed the conclusion of his engagements at the 20th summit of the G20 Leaders in South Africa, where he also represented President Tinubu.
In a statement by his Media Assistant, Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President will join other Heads of State and Government from the African Union, AU, and the European Union, EU, for the 7th meeting of the two bodies, scheduled to take place from November 24 to 25, 2025, in Luanda.
The AU-EU meeting is reported to be bringing together young leaders, innovators, and civil society organisations to brainstorm on some of the shared challenges facing the two unions.
According to the statement, the meeting will also provide recommendations on how to tackle issues related to climate change, inclusivity in development, infrastructure, the digital economy, the creative industry, manufacturing, and agribusiness.
“The Vice President will return to Nigeria at the end of the AU-EU summit,” the statement said.
Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to prosecute those responsible for violence against Christians in the country.
Meloni, who made this call on Friday in a statement, condemned attacks on Christians, saying that religious freedom was the right of every human being.
She also demanded the tightening of security apparatus in Christian communities across Nigeria.
“We strongly condemn the renewed violence against Christian communities in Nigeria today. Religious freedom is an inalienable right: we call on the Nigerian government to strengthen the protection of Christian communities and all religious communities and prosecute those responsible for this heinous attack.
