Ohanaeze Disclaims Allegations Of Pushing For Fubara’s Ouster

The leading Igbo cultural powerhouse, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, shot down rumors that it had prodded Martin Amaewhule, the Rivers State Assembly Speaker, to kick off an impeachment push against Governor Siminalayi Fubara, waving off the chatter as pure fiction.

The group made it crystal clear it’s steering well away from the political melee engulfing Rivers State, stressing that whatever whispers were floating around didn’t come from their camp—they’re not in the game on this one.

in a twist, a breakaway splinter of Ohanaeze tossed out a call that same day, pressing Amaewhule to light the fuse on an impeachment drive aimed at Fubara, stirring the pot with gusto.

This curveball landed just a day after the Supreme Court dropped its Friday bombshell, breathing new life into the ousted pro-Nyesom Wike lawmakers—including Amaewhule himself—flipping the script on Rivers’ turbulent legislative saga.

The statement was signed by the factional Deputy President-General, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and the National Publicity Secretary, Chief Chinenyeze Ohia.

However, speaking with Sunday PUNCH on Saturday, the National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Ezechi Chukwu, dismissed the claim that the organisation had called for Fubara’s impeachment.

He said, “That statement didn’t emanate from us. We don’t know anything about it; we don’t have any position on this matter, and we have nothing to say about it.

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo stated that they had no connection to the matter, advising the public and media to exercise caution about their information sources and emphasizing that people should always double-check what they hear.
