French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday reaffirmed that peace should not come at the cost of Ukraine’s surrender. Speaking alongside US President Donald Trump, he cautioned against a global order where brute force dictates outcomes, emphasizing the need to uphold international law.

“This peace cannot mean the surrender of Ukraine,” Macron told a joint news conference with Trump at the White House.

Ukraine “fought over these past few years for its independence and for its sovereignty, but also for our collective security,” Macron said.

After the Trump administration opened lines of communication with Russian President Vladimir Putin to urge a rapid end to the three-year war, France’s Emmanuel Macron shared his thoughts on the unfolding diplomatic push.
