The Senate officially confirmed on Wednesday the defection of Senator Ned Nwoko, who represents Delta North, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This move comes after his recent resignation from the opposition party, marking a significant shift in his political allegiance.
Senator Ned Nwoko pointed to the growing instability and internal conflicts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as key factors influencing his defection. He argued that the party’s current turmoil posed a significant threat to his political prospects, which led to his decision to align with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

The atmosphere became electrified with loud chants as Senator Nwoko made his way to the majority wing of the Upper Chamber, a show of solidarity and enthusiasm for his political shift.
In his letter, which was read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senator Nwoko urged the Senate to create an ad hoc committee to delve into the mounting crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), highlighting the urgency of addressing the issue.He reaffirmed the importance of a strong opposition as a fundamental pillar in safeguarding Nigeria’s political framework, helping to maintain a balanced and transparent democratic process.
