A former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, has frowned upon police authorities compelling Nigerians to insure their vehicles.

Sani stated this in a post via his official X handle on Monday.

According to the former lawmaker, insuring vehicles should be done by choice and not by compulsion.

“Forcing people to insure their vehicles is wrong. It should be a personal choice if a person wants to insure their vehicle or not. Insurance guys just want to drag people to their offices,” he tweeted.

The Eastern Updates recalls that the Nigerian Police Force has commenced the enforcement of the third-party vehicle insurance policy across different states.

The police said the initiative will ensure vehicle owners and road users are safeguarded, adding that the move was necessitated by the directives from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

In other news, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has denied the existence of any rift between him and his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai.

The governor insisted that the relationship between him and El-Rufai is very cordial.

He stated this while fielding questions on a TVC news programme on Monday.

“I can tell you there’s no problem between me and my predecessor. Our relationship is very cordial, and there’s nothing wrong with our relationship. What is more important here is moving our state forward.

“I don’t know why you’re also talking about the State Assembly. The State Assembly is also an independent arm of the government. So there’s nothing. Kaduna State is more important than me and my predecessor,” the governor said.
