A fight broke out on Wednesday at the headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, where a meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, is ongoing.

The Peoples Democratic Party leaders, parading themselves as party National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu and former Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye, are currently attending the Board of Trustees meeting.

PDP BoT Chairman and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, officially opened the meeting at 12:05 p.m. in Abuja.

Anyanwu was present from the start, while Ude-Okoye arrived at precisely 12:10 p.m.

The atmosphere is tense, as the meeting entered a closed-door session shortly thereafter.

The altercation began when Sunday Ude-Okoye, a party chieftain, was ejected from the meeting.

Samuel Anyanwu and Ude-Okoye are fighting over for the position of National Secretary of the party.

Ude-Okoye had arrived the venue of the meeting before Anyanwu and acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum.

But, when Anyanwu arrived, Ude-Okoye was forced out of the meeting by suspected thugs, a situation that led to an altercation.

Recall that, in 2023, the PDP’s South East zone nominated former National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye to replace Anyanwu as National Secretary after he was chosen as the party’s candidate for the Imo State governorship election.

The South East PDP contended that Anyanwu should no longer hold the position following his selection as the Imo candidate, sparking further controversy.

On December 20, 2024, the Appeal Court in Enugu upheld Ude-Okoye as the PDP National Secretary, and the decision was formally communicated to the party leadership on December 24.

However, last week, the Court of Appeal in Abuja issued a restraining order, directing Anyanwu to remain National Secretary until the Supreme Court resolves the appeal.
