The Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Gen Chris Musa, has expressed hopes that the arrest of Simon Ekpa, the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra Republic Government in Exile, is a step towards his extradition to Nigeria.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Director of Defence Information, Brig Gen Tukur Gusau.
The CDS hailed Ekpa’s arrest by Finnish authorities, according to the statement.

“CDS is happy with his (Ekpa) arrest in Finland, with the hope this will be a step towards his extradition to Nigeria so that he will face justice,” the statement said.
The Eastern Updates recall that the Finland district court in Lahti had ordered the remand of Simon Ekpa on probable cause for public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent in Nigeria.
Ekpa was accused of using social media platforms to spread separatist propaganda linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, a group advocating for the secession of southeastern Nigeria.
In other news, the Defence Headquarters has confirmed that Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists ambushed troops conducting stabilization operations in Gubio Local Government Area (LGA) of Borno State, leading to a heavy gunfight.
In the aftermath of the attack, five soldiers were killed, 10 were wounded, and four others were reported missing. However, over 30 terrorists were neutralized, with several others escaping with bullet wounds.

Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed the details in a statement, noting the recovery of weapons and the destruction of terrorist equipment.
“The attack resulted in the destruction of one gun truck, three TCVs, and an excavator,” Buba said. He added that a reinforcement team, supported by air components, was deployed to pursue the fleeing attackers.
Sources revealed that the terrorists launched multiple assaults in an attempt to overrun a special military force stationed in Kareto, a community in Gubio LGA.
