President Bola Tinubu is set to leave Abuja on Sunday for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he will represent Nigeria at the 19th G20 Leaders Summit. Scheduled to take place on November 18 and 19, the event will bring together global leaders to discuss pressing international issues and foster economic cooperation.

Initiated by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the summit will bring together influential leaders from major economies to address some of the most urgent and complex issues facing the international community today.

The announcement was made by the Presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, through a statement on Sunday, highlighting the significance of the President’s role in the global event.

He highlighted that the central theme for this year’s summit, “Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,” will guide discussions aimed at eradicating poverty, eliminating hunger, transitioning toward renewable energy solutions, and achieving sustainable growth worldwide.

Tinubu’s participation is expected to include a strong call for the overhaul of global governance bodies, a stance that aligns with Nigeria’s enduring commitment to equitable representation on the world stage.

“This year’s meeting, under the theme, ‘Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet,’ will see the participants discuss the fight against hunger and poverty; reform of the Institution of global governance and; sustainable development and Energy Transition,” Onanuga said.
