Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, confirmed on Monday that President Bola Tinubu is keenly aware of the ongoing economic challenges in the country.

Akume made this statement while standing in for President Tinubu at a special birthday service held in celebration of Pastor Tunde Bakare, the Serving Overseer of Citadel Global Community Church, as he marked his milestone 70th birthday.

Akume acknowledged that the President is fully aware of the economic challenges facing the nation, but reassured Nigerians that despite the difficulties, the country is heading in the right direction.

“The President acknowledges that times are hard, but at the end of the tunnel, there is always light.

“And solutions to complex problems can never be as instant as coffee, but we are on the right track,” he said at The Citadel, Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun, Lagos, where families and friends gathered to pour encomiums on Bakare.

His speech comes amid the myriad of economic challenges confronting Nigerians, which are the ripple effects of reforms introduced by Tinubu.

The reforms include the removal of fuel subsidies and the floating of the Naira, which the Presidency has since noted were necessary decisions to revive the country’s economy.

At the event, the President, through the SGF, celebrated Pastor Bakare, describing him as a true man of God.

He stressed, “It gives me a great joy to join you in honouring a man whose life has been an embodiment of passion, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to justice and righteousness.”

Tinubu said, “Pastor Bakare, fondly called P.T.B., has been a beacon of hope and a voice for the voiceless in our society. His influence as a spiritual leader, nation builder, and advocate for truth has left an indelible mark, not just on those who follow his teachings, but on the nation as a whole.

“His decades of service and dedication to the principles of honesty, transparency, and fairness have earned him the respect and admiration of many across this nation and beyond.

“This celebration is a testament to a life of strength and courage. Your powerful messages and fearless advocacy speak volumes of your dedication to uplifting humanity. It is these values that have allowed you to make such a difference, both on the pulpit and in the larger society of these groups.”

The President was joined by the governors of Lagos and Ogun states, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Dapo Abiodun, respectively among other dignitaries, to extol the political vibrancy of Bakare in the country and his spiritual leadership at the church over the years.
