Western Battleground Now Focal Point For Harris, Trump

Kamala Harris took a stand on Thursday against Donald Trump’s comments, which she described as “very offensive” to women. Her rebuttal brought reproductive rights back into the national conversation, as both contenders sharpen their strategies in pivotal western battleground states during this tight race for the presidency.

With just five days until the November 5 election, the candidates are laser-focused on immigration issues, hoping to win over essential Latino voters. Their efforts underscore the importance of this demographic in what is shaping up to be a fiercely contested race.

The Eastern Updates learned that pop legend Jennifer Lopez will be performing in Las Vegas, Nevada, to support Kamala Harris.

With just days left before the election, both the Democratic vice president and the Republican former president are focusing their campaigns on the seven swing states expected to play a decisive role in the election outcome.

Trump also took to the stage for a rally in Nevada on Thursday while preparing for a scheduled interview with ex-Fox News personality Tucker Carlson in nearby Arizona. These appearances are part of his strategy to engage voters and amplify his message in the final days leading up to the election.

Starting her day in Wisconsin, Harris fiercely criticized Trump for his recent comments that drew widespread attention. During a rally, Trump claimed, “I want to protect the women of our country… whether the women like it or not,” which Harris argued reflected a troubling attitude toward women’s agency and rights.

She branded the comments “offensive to everybody” and “very offensive to women in terms of not understanding their agency.”

Trump, she told reporters, “does not prioritise the freedom of women and the intelligence of women to make decisions about their own lives and bodies.”

Reproductive rights have served as a rallying cry for Democrats – and an Achilles heel of sorts for Trump – ever since the conservative-dominated United States Supreme Court ended the federal right to abortion in 2022, resulting in what Harris has been quick to call “Trump abortion bans” in multiple states.

With this year’s election showing a demonstrable gender gap, with women voters tilting toward Harris, and Trump earning support from most men, abortion rights could play a determining role in the outcome

Both campaigns have been jolted in recent days after controversies stemming from a remark by a warm-up speaker at a Trump rally, which initially blew back against Republicans before a damaging gaffe from President Joe Biden.

Harris made political hay from the comedian calling the US territory of Puerto Rico a “floating island of garbage.”

Her campaign won the backing of Puerto Rican celebrities Lopez, rapper Bad Bunny and singer Ricky Martin, and released a Spanish-language ad with the voice-over concluding: “On November 5, Trump will find out that one person’s trash is another’s treasure.”

But Harris found herself on the defensive after Biden appeared to call Trump supporters “garbage” – prompting the Democratic candidate to state she disagreed with criticism of people based on who they vote for.

Both candidates will be in North Carolina at the weekend as part of a blitz of battleground states, with Harris also visiting Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania before Election Day.

Seizing on a blunder from Kamala Harris, Donald Trump, who has referred to her supporters as “garbage” and “scum,” executed a publicity stunt by climbing into a garbage truck featuring his branding, drawing attention to his criticisms.

In the most recent poll by the New York Times and Siena College, Kamala Harris received 52 percent support from Hispanic voters, outpacing Donald Trump, who has 42 percent backing.

This weekend, both candidates will descend on North Carolina as part of their intensive campaign across critical battleground states. Kamala Harris is also scheduled to visit Georgia, Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania before the election concludes.
