The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority stated that the Blue Line Rail returned to service on Sunday, after a section of the rail track was engulfed by fire the previous day.
Reports obtained by The Eastern Updates indicate that the Fire Service confirmed no casualties in the Saturday fire, thanks to the rapid response of emergency crews who managed to control the flames shortly after they began at 4:12 p.m.
Kolawole Ojelabi, speaking on behalf of LAMATA, stated that the fire occurred near the old NEPA station, along a section of the track by Eko Bridge in the Apongbon region of Lagos Island.
He confirmed that “as a result, passenger operations of the Blue Line were disrupted.”
Providing further details in a statement, Ojelabi said, “Following the spark, the system isolated the section for investigators and engineers from the Independent Power Plant powering the train to trace the source of the fire.

“The Closed-Circuit camera along the section promptly alerted emergency staff who triggered the emergency response process.
“No passengers on the train and workers were in danger following the fire incident. Engineers are working profusely to replace the burnt cables, and it is projected that train operation will resume Sunday morning.”
LAMATA expressed its commitment to ensuring that the Blue Line, the first electrically-powered rail system in West Africa, operates with the highest safety protocols in place.
