Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has reacted to the decision of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, to omit him from the 2024 CAF Player of the Year shortlist.
Boniface, who plays for Bayer Leverkusen, was one of the notable absentees from the list released on Thursday.
He has been left out despite an outstanding season with the German side, who won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal last season.

Boniface and his teammates were also runners-up in the Europa League.
In total, Boniface scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists in 34 matches.
His performances earned him the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season award and a spot in the Team of the Season.
In response to his omission, Boniface took to social media on X on Thursday, saying: “Rookie of the Season. Team of the Season. No worries. I no play AFCON. Na why I dey wait for Memes d’Or.”
Boniface missed the Africa Cup of Nations due to injury.
In other news, Juventus director Cristiano Giuntoli has confirmed that the club will terminate Paul Pogba’s contract.
According to Giuntoli, Pogba is now surplus to requirement in the team.
He said: “Pogba was a great player but we have different plans now. We’ve invested in different players and our team is now complete.”
Pogba’s second stint with the Italian giants will end, despite his initial four-year doping ban being reduced by the Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS, to just 18 months.
This means the 31-year-old can restart training in January and will be playing competitive football again in March.
But Pogba is likely to continue his career away from Juventus, despite his current deal set to expire in June 2026.
