The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is coordinating the evacuation, which has commenced with mobilising the citizens and would be followed immediately with all necessary requirement to bring them home.
In a statement on Friday, NEMA said a leader of Nigeria community, through a telephone conversation, acknowledged the support by the Nigerian Mission in Lebanon especially in their safe movement out of high-risk areas.
He added that no Nigerian life has been lost so far in the conflict.
“In view of the planned voluntary evacuation, those Nigerians willing to be evacuated back home are advised to report to the Embassy in Beirut where they will be profiled for the airlift,” the statement read in part.
Israeli forces carried out at least 10 airstrikes on southern Beirut late Thursday, according to Lebanese sources. This assault followed Israel’s deadliest military operation in the occupied West Bank in decades.
The intensifying Israeli assaults come as the country considers retaliatory measures following a missile barrage from Iran. The United States has indicated that targeting Iranian oil facilities is among the options Israel is weighing.
Iran claimed the attack was in response to the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and other senior figures aligned with Tehran.
