In a significant breakthrough, Lagos State law enforcement agencies have detained two persons suspected of perpetrating a heinous crime: the alleged sale of newborn twins, a case that underscores the need for continued vigilance against human trafficking.
Thanks to a quick-thinking whistleblower, Ojodu Division police were able to apprehend suspects in Berger, revealed Benjamin Hundeyin, Lagos State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, highlighting the value of community collaboration in crime prevention.
“The suspects were found with two newborn baby girls, approximately six days old, while traveling from Abia State on September 9, 2024,” Hundeyin said in a Friday statement.
Authorities discovered that the suspects were part of an alleged baby trafficking scheme, aiming to deliver the newborns to a Lagos-based nurse, previously linked by the mother, raising concerns about organized exploitation.

“Upon questioning, the suspects confessed to the crime, stating that they were paid the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira (₦150,000) for transportation of the babies to Lagos. The suspects added that the mother of the babies sold the babies because she could not give them proper care.”
Police are diligently working to apprehend additional suspects, while those already apprehended were presented in court on Thursday, September 19, 2024, marking a significant step forward in the case.
“The case was transferred to the Gender Unit of the Command from where the newborns were placed in the custody of a motherless babies home for proper care and medical evaluation,” the spokesman said.
