President Bola Tinubu has made no request for the resignation of Yemi Cardoso, who currently serves as the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
According to a statement from the presidency, any claims suggesting otherwise are unsubstantiated. The administration reaffirmed its support for Cardoso, dismissing any speculation about a leadership change at the CBN.
Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, has dismissed reports suggesting that President Tinubu asked for Cardoso’s resignation.
Onanuga clarified that such claims, which did not originate from Channels Television, are completely false and misleading, reinforcing that no such directive was ever issued.

“It’s all lies. President Tinubu has not asked Yemi Cardoso to resign.”
According to the report, President Tinubu supposedly issued the order for Cardoso’s resignation prior to his departure for China, despite the intervention of key Yoruba leaders working to keep Cardoso in place.
Cardoso has faced criticism for his inability to address the ongoing economic challenges and stabilise the Naira.
A seasoned economic and development policy advisor, he was nominated by President Tinubu on September 15, 2023, and assumed office as CBN Governor on September 22, 2023.
In the days leading up to his takeover from acting CBN Governor Folashodun Shonubi, both he and his deputies were given the green light by the National Assembly.
