The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has acted swiftly to shut down a rogue factory at Benue Plaza in the Trade Fair Complex, Lagos, where counterfeit cosmetics were being produced.
This intervention is part of NAFDAC’s broader initiative to eliminate illegal cosmetic manufacturing operations.
The agency disclosed on its X handle Tuesday that the closure of the factory came after a thorough raid, during which operatives uncovered unregistered chemicals, improper packaging, and expired goods being falsely validated for sale.
In the course of the raid, NAFDAC confiscated over 1,200 cartons filled with fake cosmetics.Among the confiscated goods were mini-mixing containers, unmarked chemicals, batch coding supplies, and thinners, all of which were moved to the NAFDAC office for detailed investigation.
“The Agency estimates the street value of the confiscated items to be around ₦50 million,” NAFDAC said.
“NAFDAC urges the public to be cautious when purchasing cosmetic products and report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
