In light of the arrest of the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Joe Ajaero, the Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has been criticized by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the undue apprehension and random arrests of Nigerians by security agencies.

Reacting to the development a press conference in Abuja, Debo Ologunagba, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, blamed Tinubu or the arrests.

The Eastern Updates also recalls that some Nigerians had between August 1 and 10 taken to the streets in many cities to protest against hardship in the country.

“There is a need for caution. There was a protest in this country, the government did not do anything. You arrest some people and say they were terrorists and you charge them to court. You say some people were the sponsors of the protest.

“We know those who sponsored the protest. The sponsor is hungry. The President and his people should arrest hunger and there will be no problem. Let your draconian policies bring people to their knees. This is the season schools are resuming, we know what people are going through,” PDP spokesman said.

In a post on its official X handle, NLC demanded immediate release of its national president.

“We demand the immediate and unconditional release of Congress President, Comrade Joe Ajaero,” it wrote.

The union further urged “all affiliate unions, state councils, civil society allies and all patriotic Nigerians should be on red alert”.

The Eastern Updates would also recall that the NLC president was recently invited by the Nigeria Police Force for questioning over alleged link to terrorism financing and other related offences.
