A security guard at the Action People’s Party (APP) secretariat in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, is recovering from gunshot wounds after a daring daylight attack by unknown assailants. The incident has cast a pall of fear over the political landscape, with many demanding answers and action from authorities.
The latest attack, which occurred under the cover of darkness at midnight, is the second major incident to target the Action People’s Party (APP) in less than a month. The party’s secretariat in the New GRA of Port Harcourt was previously bombed, leaving many to wonder if the incidents are connected and what the motive behind them might be.
Action People’s Party (APP) state chairman, Sunny Wokekoro, briefed journalists at the party’s secretariat on Wednesday, revealing that the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a security guard remain shrouded in mystery. Despite the unclear details, Wokekoro’s address underscored the party’s concern about the escalating violence.
Wokekoro informed journalists that the security guard who was shot is currently undergoing medical treatment at a hospital, while the police officers stationed at the secretariat since the previous bombing incident have yet to provide the party with a briefing on the latest attack, leaving many questions unanswered.
Wokekoro voiced his concerns about the police’s capacity to apprehend those responsible for the latest attack, particularly given their lack of progress in investigating last month’s bombing incident. The fact that no details have been released about the earlier explosion has raised doubts about the police’s ability to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Wokekoro and other leaders of the party also took journalists to the hospital where the injured security guard was being treated.
However, the hospital staff prevented journalists from speaking with the victim.
The APP Chairman insisted that the attacks will not deter the party from carrying out its activities and participating in the local government election next month.
