The Peter Obi camp says they are unfazed by the latest buzz surrounding former President Goodluck Jonathan’s potential entry into the 2027 presidential bid. Sources close to the Labor Party’s flagbearer say they’re not losing sleep over Jonathan’s possible bid, exuding confidence in Obi’s growing momentum.

In a surprising turn of events, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially endorsed the potential return of former President Goodluck Jonathan to the party’s fold, sparking a flurry of reactions just days later. This move has set tongues wagging, with many pondering the implications of Jonathan’s possible comeback.

Rumblings of discontent have been simmering beneath the surface in recent weeks, with whispers of Northern elites and politicians growing increasingly disenchanted with President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

As the murmurs gain momentum, speculation is mounting that this quiet dissatisfaction may ultimately translate into a push for change come the next election.

Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, has made a bold declaration, vowing to sacrifice his own presidential ambitions if Goodluck Jonathan decides to run. This remarkable show of loyalty has sparked widespread attention which highlights the enduring influence of the former President and the willingness of some to step aside in his favor.

During a gathering convened by the Save Africa Initiative, a non-governmental organization, in the nation’s capital, Abuja, Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, publicly bestowed his blessing on Goodluck Jonathan’s potential presidential bid. This endorsement, made in a formal setting, has added significant weight to the growing chorus of support for the former President.

Speaking in an interview with newsmen, Obi’s campaign spokesman, Yunusa Tanko, disclosed that it may be too early to start discussing the 2027 presidential race.

He said, “We are not perturbed with any situation. At the moment, we are only focusing on what concerns Nigerians in terms of their welfare, needs and challenges.

“We are also taking time to build the structure of our platform. That’s where we are now. When we get to that particular bridge, we will cross it.”

Tanko, a keen observer of the political landscape, expressed his suspicion that the sudden interest in Goodluck Jonathan’s candidacy may be a mere testing of the waters. However, he issued a stern warning to the PDP, stating that the Labour Party camp will not be cowed or intimidated if the former President ultimately becomes the opposition party’s flagbearer.
