Governor Alex Otti is spearheading a groundbreaking initiative to propel Abia’s civil service into the 21st century, leveraging technology and innovation to build a dynamic, responsive, and forward-thinking workforce that meets the evolving needs of the state.
At his Nvosi country retreat, at the heart of Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia, Otti welcomed a delegation from the British High Commission to Nigeria where he made the pledge.
The visit was led by the seasoned diplomat Dr. Richard Montgomery, British High Commissioner to Nigeria, whose leadership and expertise paved the way for a successful and enlightening meeting with Otti at his Nvosi residence.
The governor assured that his administration is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to transform the civil service sector, cultivating a workforce that is agile, adaptable, and poised to excel in the years to come.
Governor Otti, acknowledging the innate ingenuity and dynamism of Abia’s people, expressed his gratitude to Dr. Richard Montgomery, British High Commissioner to Nigeria, for supporting the digital upskilling of over 500 Abia civil servants, empowering them to thrive in an increasingly tech-driven world.

“We are very happy to receive you; we thank you for making the decision to come.
“We want a civil service that is ready for the future, ready for technology and ready for innovations.’’
Governor Otti highlighted his administration’s concerted efforts to create a conducive business environment in Abia, investing in critical infrastructure such as power, roads, and security over the past 14 months, thereby mitigating risks and enticing private sector investment.
“We came prepared with some solutions in terms of strategies; we have put a lot of things together.
“For us, governance is about the welfare of the people; it is about making the people happy and that is why we support the private sector.’’
The governor said that the South East Governors were collaborating to take advantage of regional integration for the overall development of the region.
He said the South East Governors Forum was thinking towards regional railway lines to promote trade and other economic activities.
Earlier, Montgomery commended the significant improvement in resource management, digital compliant civil service and improved infrastructure recorded under Otti within 14 months in office.
Abia’s digital fortunes are set to change with Montgomery, the UK’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, offering to collaborate with the state in leveraging technology to drive growth and development.
Montgomery announced the British High Commission’s commitment to a broad-based partnership with Abia State, encompassing trade, energy, transportation, technology, manufacturing, and other strategic areas, all designed to create jobs, spur economic growth, and enhance the state’s competitiveness.
The occasion drew a high-powered delegation from the state government, including the Secretary to the State Government, Head of Service, and several commissioners, alongside other top government appointees and the freshly minted graduates of the digital training program.
