Come September 1, 2024, Nigerians will have to dig deeper into their pockets to secure a passport, as the Federal Government has approved a fee increase for the vital travel document. This adjustment is likely to resonate with anyone planning a trip abroad.
According to DCI Kenneth Udo, spokesperson for the Nigeria Immigration Service, the fee hike is a deliberate measure to uphold the excellence and authenticity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, reflecting the government’s commitment to quality and integrity.
The Nigeria Immigration Service spokesman outlined the new fee structure, stating that the 32-page passport booklet will now cost N50,000, up from N35,000, and the 64-page booklet will increase to N100,000 from N70,000, with the same 5-year and 10-year validity periods applying.
The Nigeria Immigration Service has exempted Nigerians in the Diaspora from the fee increase, ensuring that they will continue to pay the same rates for passport services as before.
The NIS has tendered apologies for any hardship the increased fees may cause, simultaneously reiterating its unshakeable commitment to transparency, quality, and customer-centric service delivery, ensuring Nigerians receive only the best.
