Pushing for transparency and accountability, the Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has called on the Federal Government to establish a direct line of communication with the masses.
This would effectively eliminate the governors’ role as intermediaries, preventing them from siphoning off funds and relief materials for their own benefit.
Interestingly, the hunger protest did not extend to Abia State, where no such event was held.
In a joint statement, Goodluck Ibem, President General, and Okey Nwaoru, Publicity Secretary, highlighted that this approach will help ease the problems prompting the youth protests, since the federal government’s efforts to address their concerns often do not effectively resonate with the targeted audience.
“We moved round the five states of the South East to ensure our youths do not participate in the protest march against President Tinubu’s Administration.
“Our people listened to our appeal and stared away from the protest because they believe in us as their true representatives that speak for them.

“The Nigerian youths are protesting because of high-level corruption and egocentric tendencies of our governors who are in office to represent themselves and families. We appreciate our people for being law-abiding and we urge them to keep it up.
“We call on the FG to look at the issue of reducing the price of fuel and other petroleum products so that the cost of living will be affordable for the common man”, the youths said.
In the end, the citizens of the state exercised caution and stayed indoors, avoiding involvement in the protest and any potential risks associated with it.
Although the streets were relatively quiet in the morning, with some banks and businesses remaining closed, the state nevertheless experienced a peaceful day.
