Resignation, Not Sacked: Abia Commissioners’ Exit Clarified

Listen to article

In a statement aimed at correcting public misconceptions, the Abia State Government revealed that two commissioners had submitted their resignations, contrary to reports of their dismissal, emphasizing the amicable nature of their departure.

About two months ago, Governor Alex Otti made a bold move by suspending the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, and relieving his Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko, of their duties, fueling speculation and curiosity among observers, as no official reason was given for the sudden shake-up.

The two commissioners who found themselves out of the loop were Chima Oriaku, the chief overseer of Science and Technology, and Professor Monica Ironkwe, the agriculture czar, both of whom saw their tenures come to an abrupt end.

“The following cabinet members of Abia State Government have tendered their resignation letters to the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti. They are: Mr. Chima Oriaku – Commissioner for Science and Technology; and Prof. Monica Ironkwe , Commissioner for Agriculture.

“The Executive Governor thanked them for their service and sacrifice to the state and wish them well in their future endeavours,” the CPS to the Governor, Ukoha Njoku Ukoha said.

The lack of explanation in the statement only heightened the mystery surrounding their departure, leaving many to speculate about the factors that led to the resignation of the two commissioners.
