Anyim Pius Anyim, a former Senate President and Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), leaving his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as he pledges to support the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has further bolstered its ranks with the formal admission of former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim and other opposition leaders, who were welcomed by the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulahi Ganduje, Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Minister David Umahi, and Minister Uche Nnaji, among other party leaders, during a grand finale rally in Ebonyi State, ahead of the July 20 local polls.
The APC leadership applauded Anyim Pius Anyim’s decision to join the party, citing his vast political experience and astute understanding of the nation’s political dynamics as valuable assets that will fortify the party’s standing in the South East region and beyond.

Other opposition party leaders in the state who were also officially received into the APC by the APC national leaders included Sen. Obinna Ogba who represented Ebonyi Central between 2015 and 2023, former Labour Party governorship candidate in the state, Chief Edward Nkwegu, former House of Representatives members, Anayo Edwin Nwonu, Peter Edeh, Lazarus Ogbee, Livinus Make, a business mogul, Kenneth Akobundu Nweke, former House of Assembly members, former local government chairmen, former commissioners, among other opposition party bigwigs.

Before a packed crowd, former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim explained that his decision to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) was the culmination of thorough consultations with stakeholders and a careful consideration of the party’s ideals and values.
The former Senate President noted that Ebonyi State has traditionally been a one-party state and that he was eager to be a part of the unified political movement that Governor Francis Nwifuru has spearheaded, emphasizing the importance of being part of an inclusive administration that represents the interests of all citizens.
