In a noteworthy political shake-up, over 1,300 former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State have switched allegiance to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), marking a substantial blow to the PDP’s support base in the region.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo played host to a throng of former PDP loyalists at a special welcome event in Awka, as the defectors, hailing from various parts of Anambra State, formally aligned with the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Governor Soludo encouraged the new defectors to solidify their membership by participating in the ongoing APGA electronic re-registration drive, ensuring their seamless integration into the party.
He said: “I am happy that PDP in Anambra has woken up and discovered that joining APGA movement is the only way to the Promised Land.

“I appeal to everyone to join hands with my administration to build the party and make it a vehicle for transformation; and I’m also committed to using the vehicle to enhance development in the state.
“APGA as a party is deliberate about building human capital in a sustainable way. As you can see in some of our policies — free education, free antenatal care and delivery services for women, distribution of palm and coconut seedlings, among others.
“I promise to do more because APGA is the only platform through which real development will be taken to the people, especially the poor and downtrodden.”
In his address, Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, Chairman of APGA in the state, showered praise on Governor Soludo for his role in creating an inclusive and vibrant party environment, which has attracted a wave of new members to the party’s ranks.
Emeka Anyaenetu, who represented the former PDP faithful, explained that their decision to join the APGA movement was largely influenced by Governor Soludo’s unwavering focus on delivering policies that positively impact the lives of the people.
“We want to help the governor continue and complete his agenda for the development of Anambra state,” he said.
In his words, their objective was to turbocharge the governor’s development agenda, unlocking the state’s vast potential and ushering in a new era of growth.
