The All Progressives Congress, APC, Aba North chapter has found itself at the center of a raging controversy, following the release of a suspension notice on social media, which has left many party faithful reeling in shock and disbelief.
The fate of top APC officials was sealed on June 5, 2024, when the Aba North chapter conveyed their suspension to state chairman Kingsley Ononogbu in a formal letter, culminating from a pivotal stakeholders’ meeting that produced a unanimous verdict.
The suspension of senior party officials was made official in a letter from Hon. Tony Anuforo, Abia North party chairman, to the state chairman, accompanied by supporting documents that confirmed the local government stakeholders’ unanimous endorsement.
The suspension affects a number of prominent party officials, including Comrade Uche Moses, a prominent voice in Eziama Ward 1, Mr. Uzoma Nwogu, a seasoned party member from Umuola Ward 8, and Mr. Uhiara Humphrey, a well-known figure in Ward 4, as well as several others.
The state party chapter has maintained a deafening silence on the suspension of its leaders by the Aba North party leadership, a move that has sparked widespread curiosity and speculation among political observers.
No member of the suspended APC stakeholders in Aba North has made any official statement about their suspension from the party.

The suspension may trigger further actions, such as expulsion or legal challenges, depending on the party’s constitution and rules. This could lead to a prolonged internal conflict, damaging the party’s image and potentially impacting its electoral prospects. The outcome may also set a precedent for future disciplinary actions.
If the party’s constitution allows for it, the suspension could lead to a full-blown investigation, uncovering deeper internal issues and potentially leading to a major shake-up.
The suspension of party members is not unprecedented in Nigerian politics. In 2019, the All Progressives Congress (APC) suspended several high-ranking members, including the then-President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, for alleged anti-party activities.
The internal conflicts and suspensions within Nigerian political parties have been attributed to various factors, including ideological differences, power struggles, and allegations of corruption, highlighting the complex and often contentious nature of Nigerian politics.
