There is mild pandemonium in Umuahala and Umuorie villages of Asa in Ukwa West LGA, Abia State following the death of one Miss Vivian Ocheze Munachi, who was allegedly pushed down from a crane by a Chinese, Mr G.Z. Zhen.
The Eastern Updates reports that Mr. Zhen, who is the manager of a steel manufacturing company called Inner Galaxy was alleged to have pushed Munachi from a crane at the company, resulting in her death.
Although the cause of the Chinese manager’s aggressive behavior is still unknown, the victim’s hometown of Umuahala’s youth and elders are accusing foreign employees of the Inner Galaxy of practicing slave labour and other cruel treatment against their Nigerian coworkers.

Apart from this, the company was accused by the youths of paying peanuts as salaries to staff even after working overtime.
The news of the death of the female staff made the host communities boil in anger as youths stormed the company on Monday in search of the Chinese manager.
However, armed security personnel guarding the factory formed a barricade around the facility to prevent the angry crowd from causing any destruction.
When contacted, the spokesperson of the Abia State Police Command, ASP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed that the report of the incident had been received by the police.
”We got a report alleging that Mr G.Z. Zhen through his actions, led to the death of one of his staff, Miss Vivian Ocheze Munachi. An investigation is ongoing,” said ASP Chinaka.
In another report, the Government of Abia State has announced that as it clocks its one year in office on the 29th of May, 2024, it will not celebrate the occasion but will only mark it with inauguration of projects.
Prince Okey Kanu who is the Commissioner for Information and Culture, made this known while briefing the press on the outcome of this week’s Executive Council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
