Honourable Afam Victor Ogene who is the member representing Ogbaru federal constituency in the House of Representatives has called on the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo to put more effort and end the communal conflict in Ogwuaniocha community which led to the abduction of a traditional ruler since 2021.
Ogene made the call in a widely shared video, bemoaning the way that the previous administration and the state government had handled the town’s situation with veiled contempt, despite the fact that the village generates a significant portion of the state’s present oil revenue.
He appealed to the state government to set up a panel of inquiry to address the conflict and bring an end to the years of lawlessness, fear, reprisal killings and criminality in the community, adding that since 2021, there had been no progressive socioeconomic activities in the community as a result of the crisis.

The lawmaker, who is the Chairman of House Committee on Renewable Energy, disclosed that he had earlier in February, written to the state governor, drawing his attention to the lingering crisis which has led to the sacking of the over 5,000 residents of the community from both their homes and farmlands, by criminal elements who have now taken over Ogwuaniocha and environs.
In another report, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has confirmed the death of a woman in an accident at Okpoko Market on the Asaba-Onitsha Road.
Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi who is the Sector Commander in the State, while confirming the accident to journalists in Awka on Friday, said the woman was hit while she was crossing the road.
He said that the accident, which occurred on Wednesday, involved a commercial tow truck with registration number XA550BMA.
