The election petition tribunal sitting on electoral petitions stemming from the gubernatorial elections held in Imo State last year has concluded its sittings in the cases brought before it.

The legal adviser to the Labor Party (LP), Ihejirika Eze Emeka on Thursday disclosed that all parties involved in the Imo state governorship election petition tribunal have concluded presenting their cases based on the time alotted to them.

He said the election petition, led by LP’s gubernatorial candidate, Senator Athan Achonu against INEC, Senator Hope Uzodimma, and others, has reached the stage where witnesses have been called, and evidence has been tendered to support their claims.

He said: “The next steps involve filing, exchanging, and adopting final written addresses before the tribunal delivers its judgment.

“Imolites and Nigerians are hoping for the best as the judiciary is the last hope of Nigerians and upholders of our laws.

“Senator Athan Achonu and the Labour Party have consistently shown confidence in the judiciary, hoping for a favourable outcome.”

The tribunal had a fortnight ago admitted in evidence the certified true copies of statement of result and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificate belonging to Governor Uzodinma.

The Eastern Updates reports that the academic documents were tendered before the tribunal by the issuing body, WAEC.

WAEC’s action came in response to a subpoena issued on it by the tribunal to produce and tender the documents on behalf of Governor Uzodinma

The documents were produced before the tribunal by the Head of Administration at WAEC Headquarters, Omifenwa Tunbosu.

The first of the two documents produced by Tunbosu was a CTC of Uzodinma Goodhope Odidika’s West African Examinations Council General Certificate of Education, with certificate No. SG 904497 of June 1982.

The second was a CTC of  Uzodimma Goodhope Odidika’s confirmation of statement of result dated, December 18, 2014, earlier forwarded by WAEC to the office of the Senate president and delivered on January 7, 2015.
