The All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), has showered praises on Governor Alex Otti and the Abia State House of Assembly for abolishing the law that recommended pensions for former Governors of the state and their Deputies.
In a statement on Wednesday, the party’s National Vice Chairman, Rev. Augustine Ehiemere and the National Organising Secretary, Emmanuel Igbokwe, acknowledged the courage of the governor and the lawmakers in repealing the pension law which the party described as self-serving.
The Party stated that the abolished law was never in the interest of the people but “only protected the selfish interest of the few that made themselves so rich at the expense of the people.” insisting that the state’s resources should be deployed evenly to promote public interest and developments.
APGA, however, urged the governor not to renege in his campaign promise to clear the backlog of pension arrears of Abia retirees and salary arrears of workers owed by the previous administrations.

The party, which commended the governor for his efforts to develop the state, cautioned the governor’s media handlers against unnecessary media propaganda regarding the 24-hour power supply controversy.
APGA said “While the governor’s role in facilitating the project is commendable, members of the public should be allowed to sing the praise of the governor based on verifiable evidence.
“We are all happy that at last, the Geometric Power Plant Aba has come on board. We are also very hopeful that the public power supply in Aba will improve in the days ahead but for now, the blind man can only be told that there is not enough oil and not salt in the soup.”
Similarly, a chieftain of APGA, Chief Christian Okeri has described as wasteful, the 24 years reign of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State.
He made this known while speaking in an interview with journalists in Aba yesterday.
In evaluating the current situation in Abia, Okeri stated that the previous ruling party was unable to show that it was capable of tackling the numerous issues preventing the state’s socioeconomic and infrastructure growth.
