Soludo Installs New Perm Sec, Urges Commitment To Service

Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State formally welcomed 18 new Permanent Secretaries into the ranks of the State Civil Service during a ceremony on Monday.

Governor Soludo, speaking from the Government House in Awka, expressed his congratulations to the appointees, highlighting the distinctiveness of their appointment process, which he hailed as a testament to their qualifications.

Governor Soludo highlighted that the appointment of Permanent Secretaries in Anambra State has undergone a significant transformation, with candidates now selected through meticulous examinations and interviews, guaranteeing the recruitment of the most qualified individuals.

Governor Soludo drew attention to the diverse makeup of the new appointees, underscoring their origins from various states and the emphasis on gender parity, with eight women among the eighteen appointees.

Soludo urged the newly appointed Permanent Secretaries to uphold their oath of allegiance with utmost diligence, emphasizing the crucial role of reading and reflecting upon it regularly. He stressed the imperative of conscientious work, the relentless fight against corruption, and the unwavering commitment to upholding justice.

He acknowledged the challenging economic times and his own decision to forego his salary, emphasizing the team’s commitment to serving the people.

“There may be limitations, but we must persevere to deliver excellent service to the citizens of Anambra.”

The Governor urged the new Permanent Secretaries to take ownership of their roles and work collaboratively with Commissioners and other levels of government to propel Anambra State forward.

Earlier in her introductory remarks, the Head of Service, Mrs. Theodora Igwegbe, recalled that an examination was conducted for the appointment of permanent secretaries, among many stringent processes.

She applauded the Governor for taking the time to personally interview and appoint the 18 Permanent Secretaries in the State.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Sylvia Ifemeje, quoted part of Nigerian Constitution which stipulates the Governor’s power to appoint Permanent Secretaries in the Anambra State civil service.

The ceremony was graced by several high-ranking officials, among them: the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, Secretary to the State Government Prof. Solo Chukwulobelu, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Ernest Ezeajughi, Principal Secretary, Barr JPC Anetoh, Chief Of Protocol, Hon Chinedu Nwoye among other members of Anambra State Executive Council.
