Accident In Anambra: Driver, Conductor Killed In Truck Crash

Tragedy struck at Azia Junction along the Owerri-Ihiala Expressway in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra as a solitary accident claimed the lives of both a truck driver and his assistant.

Mr. Adeoye Irelewuyi, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra, verified the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka, affirming that it took place on Friday.

Irelewuyi suggested that the probable factor contributing to the accident was speeding coupled with a lack of control.

According to him, the crash involved an unknown commercial driver maneuvering a Mercedes truck, which was identified by its registration number XD131NSH.

“According to eyewitnesses, the driver was on speed, lost control of the vehicle, rammed into a big gutter by the roadside and crashed.

“A total of two male adults, including the driver and conductor, were involved in the crash. Both of them were killed.

The dead victims were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Mortuary, Ihiala by good Samaritans before the arrival of FRSC rescue team.

“However, the FRSC rescue team has removed the debris littered on the expressway and normalcy in human and vehicular movement has been restored,” he said.

In extending condolences to the families of the deceased victims, the Sector Commander cautioned motorists against excessive speeding and urged them to adhere to safe speed limits.

Irelewuyi finally stated that driving to stay alive and road safety are everyone’s responsibility.
