In the ongoing battle against insecurity, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), emphasizes his resolute commitment to addressing the challenges in Imo, the southeast, and the nation as a whole.

Lagbaja conveyed this statement to the press during his address at the 34 Artillery Brigade barracks of the Nigerian Army in Obinze, Owerri, on Thursday.

Lagbaja, Nigeria’s 23rd Chief of Army Staff (COAS) since June 2023, expressed that his visit to Imo, the first since assuming office, formed part of his operational tour encompassing various army formations and units throughout the nation.

Lagbaja clarified that his visit aimed to assess the condition of infrastructure, evaluate troop deployment, and enhance support to create a more conducive working environment.

Lagbaja conveyed his appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for the logistical and multifaceted support, acknowledging its positive impact on the morale of his men and soldiers.

Lagbaja reiterated the Nigerian Army’s dedication to the ongoing security of Imo people, emphasizing that any endeavor to disturb the peace in the state would be met with resolute resistance.

‘We will completely exterminate any dissident person or group and ensure that law-abiding citizens go about their lawful businesses without fear.’

‘The government has ordered that the backlog of benefits since the year 2011 for the families of our departed colleagues be cleared and we’re expecting more equipment to enhance our operations in the field.’

‘To this end, we must remain committed to our agenda of protecting and defending Nigeria’s sovereignty,’ he said.
