A manhunt is underway as the Imo State police intensify efforts to track down the perpetrators behind the abduction of Samuel Ohiri, the former chairman of the council of traditional rulers in the state.

In a brazen incident on Saturday morning, the monarch was seized from his home in Orodo, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, sparking concerns over security in the region.

Ohiri, the traditional ruler of Orodo autonomous community in Mbaitoli LGA, not only holds a significant position in his local community but also served as the chairman of the state traditional rulers council during the tenure of Rochas Okorocha, the former governor of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, Henry Okoye, announced in a Sunday statement that Commissioner of Police Aboki Dunjuma has taken swift action, deploying a specialized tactical squad to join forces with the military in a collaborative effort to track down the kidnappers.

He said the police commissioner condemned the ‘dastardly act in totality and vows that no stone will be left unturned until Eze Ohiri is released and his Kidnappers brought to book’.

‘More so, more police operatives have been deployed to the Mbaitoli axis for robust visibility patrol to forestall similar occurrences.’

‘In the wake of this ugly incident, the Commissioner of Police reaffirms the command’s steadfastness towards ensuring the maximum safety and security of all and sundry in Imo state.’

The police are appealing to the public to share any useful information that might assist the command in arresting the abductors.
