Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, who chairs the Southeast Governors’ Forum, has been absolved of any conspiracy in working against the release of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, by the pan-Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Secretary General of the Igbo body, disclosed in a Wednesday statement that his investigation has revealed the concerted efforts of both Governor Uzodinma and Eze Ilomuanya, Chairman of Imo Elders’ Forum, in actively intervening for the freedom of Nnamdi Kanu.

He appealed to Southeast Governors and non-state actors to join forces and collectively work towards securing the release of Nnamdi Kanu.

The statement reads: ‘Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has conducted a thorough investigation and concluded that Governor Hope Uzodinma, Chairman of the Southeast Governors Forum, and His Royal Majesty, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, Chairman of the Imo Elders Forum, are not working against the release of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.’

‘Ohanaeze Ndigbo appeals to those who have been working against the release of Nnamdi Kanu to have a change of heart and seek forgiveness from IPOB. It is evident that mischievous political elites and saboteurs are seeking personal gain and political contracts through the continued incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu. However, Governor Uzodinma and Eze Ilomuanya are not involved in any such plots and remain committed to ensuring his freedom.’

‘It is important to note that Ohanaeze Ndigbo is not representing Governor Hope Uzodinma or IPOB in its statements. There have been no contacts between Ohanaeze Ndigbo and the mentioned parties.’

‘However, Ohanaeze Ndigbo urges the Southeast Governors and non-state actors to come together and work towards securing the release of Nnamdi Kanu.’

‘As the Christmas and New Year holidays approach, the residents of the Southeast region are filled with apprehension and fear of uncertainties.’

‘Ohanaeze Ndigbo is confident that the Supreme Court and President Tinubu will grant the release of Nnamdi Kanu on Friday, December 15, 2023.’

‘Ohanaeze Ndigbo also humbly requests IPOB to consider pardoning those who have been offended by Igbo traditions. Forgiveness is a fundamental aspect of Igbo culture, and extending it to offenders will foster unity and reconciliation.’
