It was a big weekend in the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) for the Elephants of Enyimba as they recorded a 2-1 home win against Abia Warriors in an oriental derby in Aba on Sunday evening.
Happy Eze and Chidiebere Nnachi got on the scoresheet for the holders in the game that saw a number of controversial calls by the referee.
Abia Warriors got their goal through Augustine Njoku in stoppage time.
In Ikenne, Remo Stars reclaimed top position after a comfortable 2-0 victory against Kwara United.
Adams Olamilekan gave the home team the lead in the first half, while Samad Kadiri added the second towards the end of the game.
At the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna, Plateau United claimed their first away win of the season after edging their hosts Niger Tonardoes 3-2.
Harrison Ebah put Plateau United ahead on three minutes.
The hosts took control of the game through a brace from Bashir Usman.
Plateau United however won the game courtesy of goals from Albert Hilary and Silas Nenrot.
Elsewhere, Akwa United claimed their third win of the season courtesy of a 1-0 victory against Lobi Stars.
Seyi Oguntayo’s first half goal separated both teams on the night.
Recall that Remo Stars had recorded a stunning 1-0 victory against holders Enyimba in Aba last Wednesday night.
Former Lobi Stars forward, Samad Kadiri, nodded home the winning goal from Sodiq Ismail’s cross in the 34th minute.
Enyimba fought hard to get back into the game but Remo Stars goalkeeper, Kayode Bankole made a number of superb saves to deny the hosts.
