In what appears to be some sort of endorsement of the second tenure of Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, the family of the first civilian Governor of the State, late Chief Sam Mbakwe would today (Thursday) confer the governor with an award.
A statement signed by Engr. Alex Mbakwe the first son of the late sage, said that the award of ‘Beacon of Hope For Good Governance,’ would be conferred on the governor under the platform of Chief Sam Mbakwe Leadership Award 2023.
The Eastern Updates reports that this is the first time that such an award was being conferred on either a sitting or former governor of Imo State.
The award would be preceded by a lecture to be delivered by Prof. Engr Val Ikechukwu, the former Director at National Universities Commission (NUC).

The theme of the lecture is: ‘The Challenge of Leadership in Imo State: Lessons from Sam Mbakwe Model.’
According to the statement, the ceremony would be presided over by Chief Leo Stan Ekeh, a tech giant.
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, would be the father of the day, while Mrs. Victoria Mbakwe, the former Imo State First Lady is the Chief Host.
The award from Chief Sam Mbakwe Leadership Award is among dozens of awards and endorsements he has received ahead of the election.
Among those who have honoured and endorsed the governor are the Nigeria Labour Cozngress (NLC), Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP).
