APGA Cancels Rally Over GUO Driver’s Attack In Anambra

Listen to article

The planned Anambra Central Rally, which was being organised by the embattled MD/Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Agency (ACTDA), Mr Ossy Onuko, and Prince Obinna Ndigwe under the umbrella of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the zone, has been cancelled, The Eastern Updates can confirm.

Consequently, Mr Onuko may face suspension from the party if he goes ahead with the Mega Rally or any activity under that guise.

It’s worth recalling that just a week ago, reports emerged about Ossy Onuko’s involvement in an incident where he ordered the manhandling of a driver attached to GUO Transport Company.

The Anambra state government and APGA have been managing the situation, and amid this controversy, Onuko has ventured into organising a political rally.

According to the Anambra State Chairman of the party, Barrister Ifeatu Obi-Okoye:

‘The purported Anambra Central Mega Rally being organised by Ossy Onuko and Prince Obinna Ndigwe, scheduled to be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023, under the acronym ‘Solution Team,’ has been cancelled and postponed.’

‘Neither the leaders, critical stakeholders, nor the party leadership in Anambra Central Senatorial Zone were ever consulted or taken into confidence before such a mega rally was conceived or executed,’ he said.

Obi-Okoye continued:

“We are well aware of the developments in the last week, driven by Ossy Onuko, and we have been conducting damage control on the entire situation. You can see the level of insensitivity in these actions.”

‘Suddenly, he is planning a mega rally for the entire Anambra Central Senatorial Zone, where we have the Deputy Governor, the Deputy Speaker, the State Party Chairman, and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).”

‘He did not even consult any of the leaders, and these are the kinds of actions that have often contributed to our electoral losses in Awka South local government area.”

‘As the State Chairman of the Party, I will not allow such wastefulness to continue. I have halted the rally, and if he takes any contrary action, we will take disciplinary measures. Those behind him should come forward, and we will suspend him and his cohorts from the party,” he stated.

Obi-Okoye confirmed what he described as mere rumours about Ossy Onuko harbouring a Deputy Governorship ambition, dismissing those reports as not only laughable but infantile.

‘There have been such stories about him aspiring to be Deputy Governor, but you know me, and I cannot allow such nonsense as long as I am the Chairman.’

We are more concerned about the Governor winning the election than about these minor issues. Anambra Central is a very important and sensitive area, and we will deliver at the appointed time,” he emphasised.
