Listen to article

The Government of Ebonyi State has sent out a warning against the continuous vandalisation of the state’s water project facilities located at Ezzillo, Ufuru-akpe and at the Abakaliki capital city by miscreants.

Mr. Nkah Chinedu who is the State Commissioner for Water Resources, while speaking newsmen, decried the illegal connection and building of houses on water ways by citizens.

He said that the state government led by Governor Francis Nwifuru had fixed all the vandalized facilities and reticulated water to the people, after eight years of non supply of water.

According to him: ‘The vandalization affected pipes, cables, pumps, and other vital tools.

‘We started by fixing the Ezzillo water scheme. In the process of trying to pump water to Abakaliki capital city, we discovered that the damages done on the supply system are enormous.

‘Some are deliberate, some are stolen, and some are as a result of old infrastructure.’

The Eastern Updates reports that for the past eight years, there was no supply of water to the citizens of the state by the immediate past administration led by David Umahi.

Nkah said that Governor Nwifuru, on assumption of office a few months ago, vowed to supply water to reduce hardship and sufferings by citizens of the state.

“When we started pumping, we saw water running inside people’s houses and fences. Some didn’t even care, they cut the pipes while building,” he stated.
