The three geopolitical zones of Owerri, Okigwe and Orlu in Imo State are set to legally document the Imo Charter of Equity that will ensure the rotation of the governorship position of the state starting from Orlu to Owerri.

The leader of the Ground Game for Hope (GGH) Chief Jerry Chukwueke revealed this during a meeting of the Imo Elders Council and stakeholders from Owerri zone on Friday.

Chukwueke pointed out that the legal backing to the charter will discourage the distortion of the rotation and also enhance peace and unity in the state.

Chukwueke said: ‘We are going to tour the three zones and at the end produce a document that would be signed by them. This document will then have a legal backing so that nobody will distort it again.’

Chairman of Imo Elders Council, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya appealed to the stakeholders at the meeting to allow the rotation to start afresh with the zone of the incumbent, Governor Hope Uzodimma who is from Orlu.

Similarly, the state deputy governor, Professor Placid Njoku emphasised that the charter would be beneficial to the state in future.

He said: ‘I recall the charter had received God’s blessing; the Christian Association of Nigeria prayed over it. The charter is not for Uzodimma to survive; he has already survived.

It’s for the future of the state and this will also create an enabling peace in the state.

Highlight of the meeting was a motion moved in support of the charter by a former member of the state assembly for Owerri North, Ray Emeana and seconded by Chief Fidel Onyeneke also from Owerri zone.
