FG Mourns NSCDC Personnel, Others Killed In Imo

The Federal government of Nigeria has expressed sadness over the ambush and killing of personnel of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Police and Army, while on official duty at Ehime Mbano Local government area of Imo state.

Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, described the incident as a “terrible tragedy,” shocking and barbaric, promising that perpetrators would be brought to book.

In a statement by the Deputy Director, Press, Federal Ministry of Interior, Fatai Afonja, the minister assured families of the deceased and Nigerians that the country would never forget their sacrifices.

I am deeply saddened by the tragic incident in Umualumaku community, Ehime Mbano Local Council of Imo State. The loss of our security operatives is a terrible tragedy. It was a dark Tuesday for us, as our men died in the line of duty.

‘On behalf of the ministry and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we will ensure that their memories are not forgotten,’ he said.

Praying for the souls of the departed, Tunji-Ojo said: ‘We will work tirelessly to investigate this heinous act and bring perpetrators to justice,’ he added.

Confirming the incident, Public Relations Officer, (PRO), NSCDC, Babawale Afolabi, told The Guardian that two of their personnel were attacked. He said one of the officers is dead, while others are critically injured and hospitalised.
