A yet-to-be-identified young man has died of electrocution while vandalising a high tension cable at the premises of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Anambra State.

Under the condition of anonymity, an eyewitness reported that the incident took place close to the university’s Department of Economics, near the Faculty of Education building.

The witness said the deceased had almost cut the high tension cable before Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) restored power, which left him electrocuted.

According to him, people only came out and discovered a corpse of a young man hanging on the pole.

We came today (yesterday) and found the body suspended on the electric pole at a transformer point in the area of the new Faculty of Education building, close to the Department of Economics.

‘EEDC officials, police officers and officials of the Safety Department of the University came to retrieve the body at about 11:00a.m.,’ he said.

He added that people around the area could not identify the dead man, but the corpse was taken away.
