A prominent figure within Abia State’s ruling Labour Party, Maduka Zachary, widely recognised as ‘Power Zac,’ has met a gruesome end; he was reportedly beheaded in Abia state.

The deceased had served as the Campaign Director for the Labour Party during the 2023 elections in the Uturu region of Isuikwuato Local Government Area within the state.

Alongside his previous role, he also assumed the role of Campaign Director for Hon. Amobi Ogah, the House of Representatives member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency.

Zachary, before his passing, also served as the Chairman of the Uturu Union’s home branch.

The reports indicate that he was ruthlessly killed at his Uturu residence by assailants whose identities remain unknown; they reportedly severed his head and escaped.

The Eastern has gathered that the victim was a member of the local security team actively combating the increasing insecurity issues in Uturu.

Upon being contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Abia State, Moureen Chinaka, stated that she had not yet received information regarding the incident.

She, however, promised to revert when details about the sad development are duly uncovered.

‘I’m yet to be briefed. I have no information for now with regard to that. So, I will get back to you when I’m briefed’.

However, the Chairman of Labour Party in Abia State, Ceekay Igara, verified the incident to newsmen.

He noted that he reached the LP Local Government Chairman in the area who also verified that the news was true.

‘I have spoken with the Chairman of our party in the LGA and he confirmed it. He said it might not be unconnected with insecurity because the man was strong in the fight against insecurity and cultism in that region.’

He said the incident happened on Tuesday Night.

Insecurity has become a matter of serious concern in the Uturu, Okigwe, Umunneochi, and Isiagu corridor, which spans three states.

Movement in the area has become a nightmarish ordeal due to the activities of bandits, who have also increased incidents of ransom kidnappings, including along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.
