The stage has been set at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike (MOUAU), Abia State, to commemorate its 30th anniversary, founders’ day celebration and the maiden lecture series in honour of the late premier of the defunct Eastern Region, Dr. Michael Okpara.

The Eastern Updates reports that among those expected to grace the event, which holds today are the Director General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, President General Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, among others.

The state governor, Dr. Alex Otti, is the Chief Host of the event, while a goodwill message and keynote lecture will be delivered by the WTO boss and Soludo, respectively.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, said, yesterday, that they chose to mark the anniversary with a public lecture, which is within the institution’s mandate as a university, being the maiden edition of Dr. Michael Iheonukara Okpara Lecture Series and launch of an endowment for the series.

He said that the lecture topic and anniversary theme, titled, ‘Leadership, Agriculture And Entrepreneurship: The Dr. Michael Okpara Model for National Growth and Identity,’ is to remind us of a colossus, who contributed in so many ways to light up development, growth and identity of the ordinary Nigerian as the Premier of the defunct Eastern Region. He noted that the late Okpara also led the fight for the creation of Abia State.

In another report, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Anambra State has called on Governor Soludo to resign following his inability to conduct elections in the 21 local government areas in the state over a year since he assumed office despite his campaign promises.

Consequently, the party has admonished that the Federal Government should appoint a ‘caretaker’ governor to run the affairs of the state to right the worngs.

The party made this call in a statement signed by the state Publicity Secretary, Okelo Madukaife which was made available to The Eastern Updates on Thursday.

Both APC and the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance in Anambra have been tackling each other over the non-conduct of LG elections in the state since 2014.
