The Enugu Police command has confirmed the arrest of one suspect connected to the murder of Hon. Duhu Nelson Sylvester Nnacheta, the Councilor representing Eha-Ulo Ehalumona Council Ward in Nsukka Local Government Area Legislative Council.

Nnacheta lost his life in a violent attack carried out by gunmen at his residence in Eha-Alumonah on Sunday night.

The Enugu State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, stated that they currently have a suspect in custody who is believed to be part of the gang responsible for the lawmaker’s assassination.

While specific information about the incident remains limited, a source from the community revealed that the attackers forcefully entered the lawmaker’s residence and shot him.

In addition, the source disclosed that the counselor, in a frantic effort to escape, sought safety in a neighboring compound, where his lifeless body was eventually discovered.

In earlier report DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the Enugu Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, stated that he is yet to be briefed on the incident when contacted for comment.

With the arrest of this suspect hopes are high that if there are other accomplice associated with the assassination of the counsellor will be unearthed and brought to book.

The loss of Hon. Duhu Nelson Sylvester Nnacheta has left the community in sorrow, with heightened worries over the escalating insecurity in the south-east which screams for the government’s swift measures to address the situation.

The general consensus points to a connection between the security issues and the incarceration of Nnamdi Kanu, the IPOP leader, who was brought back from Kenya to Nigeria and has been in custody to this day.

It is worth recalling that almost a year ago, the nation mourned a chillingly similar incident where Okechukwu Okoye, a 44-year-old lawmaker who represented Aguata 2 Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly. He met a tragic end as he was brutally beheaded by the gunmen responsible, six days after his abduction.
