Police Nab Armed Robbery Suspects In Enugu, Recover Firearms

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the recovered one locally-fabricated double-barrel gun with two cartridges (one life and the other expended), from escaping armed suspects at New Artisan Bridge, off Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Command’s Spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Sunday which was sent to The Eastern Updates.

Ndukwe said that the feat was achieved by police operatives serving at the New Haven Division of the Command on June 16 at about 10:46 am.

‘The hoodlums abandoned their firearm with the ammunition on sighting police operatives, who immediately went on their trail, following the receipt of credible information that the miscreants were sighted in the location perfecting their criminal plans.

‘Meanwhile, discreet investigative and moves to fish out the fleeing criminal elements are underway.

‘Further development on the matter shall be made public,’ he said.

In another report, the police command had earlier confirmed the arrest of nine suspects for various offences in different locations in the state within the month of May 2023.

The Eastern Updates gathered that the suspects were nabbed for conspiracy, murder, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and cultism.

The disclosure is contained in a statement issued by the Command’s Spokesman, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, on Friday in Enugu.

Ndukwe said the police recovered one cut-to-size double-barreled gun, one cut-to-size single-barreled gun, one locally made double-barreled pistol, seven live cartridges, one battleaxe head, different bank’s ATM Cards, two black berets, and other incriminating items.

‘Investigation revealed that the suspects are part of an armed robbery syndicate specialised in car snatching, dispossessing innocent citizens within Enugu metropolis, especially in Abakpa and Trans-Ekulu, of their belongings.’

The Police revealed that they were also involved in attacking and robbing Point-of-Sale, POS, operators.
