Listen to article

The Abia State Ministry of Information and Strategy has revealed that the verification of workers in the state has commenced.

The staff audit, which was earlier scheduled to hold from Monday to Tuesday, was shifted by the Ministry to Wednesday and Thursday.

A release signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Charles Ifenkwe advised the workers in the Ministry to come to the Administration Department of the Ministry for the verification with photocopies of their service documents.

A source in the State’s civil service told reporters that the staff audit may not be unconnected with Governor Alex Otti’s administration’s determination to flush out ghost workers from the State’s civil service.

The source added that workers with genuine employment records had no reason to panic because of the verification exercise.

Meanwhile, the Permanent Secretary of Abia State Ministry of works, Mr Sunday Okpara has summoned all contractors doing jobs for the Ministry to his office for a crucial meeting.

In another report, Otti on Health Care Service Delivery, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo has claimed that the administration is one that is very passionate about upgrading various health facilities across the state to make them more responsive to the health needs of the people of Abia State.

Dr. Okoronkwo made this known yesterday when she led a team on an assessment tour of General Hospitals in the state, including the Umunnato General Hospital, Bende LGA; General Hospital Abariba, Ohafia LGA, and Isuikwuato General Hospital.

She criticised the poor condition of the facilities and said that the team would visit all 12 general hospitals in the state of Abia during the evaluation tour to ensure proper care.

Dr. Okoronkwo described as unimaginable a situation where only a medical doctor and three nurses were posted to attend to patients in a general hospital, disclosing that her team will submit a report of her findings to the Governor for the next line of action.
