Meanwhile, Prof. Umezuruike, until her appointment, was a lecturer in the department of Philosophy, Ebonyi State University and the wife to the former Commissioner for Health in Umahi-led administration for eight years.

Recall that Nwifuru succeeded David Umahi — both of the All Progressives Congress (APC) — in the March 18 governorship election and was inaugurated on May 29 alongside other newly elected and reelected governors of Nigeria states.

The Eastern Updates had earlier declared that Governor Nwifuru had asserted that he can’t be forced by any faceless group to rush into the appointment of unprofessionals in his administration.

Nwifuru said he was in charge of his administration and that he was taking his time to assemble professionals who would be appointed into various political positions in the state.

The Governor was reacting to a statement credited to a group, Association of Ebonyi Indigenes Socio-Cultural in the Diaspora, led by its President, Pascal Oluchukwu.

The President of the group, Oluchukwu, had challenged the Governor to take full charge of his government or resign from office.
