Catholic Priest Regains Freedom, 2 Days After Kidnap In Imo

The priest of Christ the King Parish, Ezinachi, Ugwuago, Okigwe Catholic Diocese, Okigwe Local Council of Imo State, Fr. Jude Maduka who has earlier kidnapped has regained freedom from his abductors.

Maduka was kidnapped Sunday morning by gunmen, who invaded his home as he was preparing for mass and took him to an unknown place.

A source from the parish who does not want to be mentioned said that the kidnap of the priest had put the church into a great panic.

He said ‘it is true. Rev Fr Jude Maduka of Okigwe diocese was kidnapped this morning. He is the parish priest of Christ the King Catholic Church at Ezinachi/ Ugwuago in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.’

‘He was kidnapped while preparing for the Sunday Mass. I don’t know why they are targeting Catholic priests. It hasn’t been long they kidnapped the Catholic priest of St Paul’s Catholic Paris Osu in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area located in the same Okigwe Catholic diocese.’

A source from the parish told The Eastern Updates that the gunmen had set Maduka free after security and other persons launched an intensive search and manhunt for the abductors.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said: “Rev Fr. Jude Maduka, who was kidnapped Sunday as he was preparing for mass, has been set free. He has reunited with the members of the Christ the King Parish, Ezinachi, Okigwe Diocese of the Catholic Church.”

The source, however, declined to comment on whether ransom was paid before the cleric was released.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Imo State Police Command, Henry Okoye, was yet to comment on the cleric’s abduction and release.
