31 Traditional Rulers Receive Staffs Of Office In Abia

The outgoing Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has presented staffs of office to no fewer than 31 Ezes-elect of various communities in the state.

The Eastern Updates reports that the staffs of office were presented to royal fathers at the Michael Okpara auditorium with a strong charge on them to work towards maintaining peace and protect the cultural values of their domains.

Ikpeazu, who was represented by his Deputy, Ude Oko Chukwu, noted that they are now duly recognized, having passed through every of the required process.

He went on to remind the new traditional rulers of the need to ensure that issues like communal boundaries, farm lands and settlement of disputes are settled amicably to ensure that peace and order would reign in their various communities.

Ikpeazu used the forum to enjoin the monarchs to use their successful ascension to the throne to reach out to all and seek device where necessary to enable them succeed in their rulership.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Christopher Enweremadu, who advised the new Ezes to always maintain peace and order in their various communities, commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for running the affairs of the State even at the tail end of his administration.

Responding on behalf of the monarchs, the traditional rule of Ugwu Nkpa autonomous community in Bende LGA, Eze Princewill Onyegbu thanked the governor for recognition done them with the presentation of Staff of Office and promised that their various domains will enjoy a reign of peace and progress.

However, the event was almost marred as the main gate to Michael Okpara auditorium was sealed by executive members of Nigeria Labour Congress during the enforcement of strike action.

The traditional rulers and their supporters were only able to access the auditorium through a rear gate.
